Legal Terms & Conditions

Legal Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions govern the use of theoryofknowledge.net and the purchase and use of memberships, resources and services provided by Theory of Knowledge Ltd.

By using our website, creating an account, purchasing a Faculty Membership or accessing our resources, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

1. About Us

Theoryofknowledge.net is operated by: Theory of Knowledge Ltd, 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.

2. Our Services

Theory of Knowledge Ltd provides educational resources, Faculty Memberships, professional development, workshops and related educational services. The content and services available through theoryofknowledge.net may change from time to time as we update and develop our resources.

3. Accounts

Certain resources are available only to registered members. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for ensuring that your account is used in accordance with the Faculty Membership purchased. You must not provide account credentials to individuals who are not entitled to access the relevant membership.

We reserve the right to suspend access where we reasonably believe that an account is being used fraudulently, unlawfully or in material breach of these Terms.

4. Faculty Memberships

Theory of Knowledge Ltd offers Faculty Memberships to schools and educational organisations. A Faculty Membership provides access to authorised staff at the purchasing school or organisation in accordance with the membership terms and description provided at the time of purchase.

Access under a Faculty Membership may not be extended to unrelated schools, organisations or individuals unless expressly agreed by Theory of Knowledge Ltd. Account or login details must not be shared with anyone who is not entitled to access the membership.

5. Membership Period

Paid Faculty Memberships provide access for the period specified at the time of purchase. Access begins when the membership is activated and continues until the applicable expiry or renewal date.

6. Automatic Renewals

Where a Faculty Membership is purchased on an automatically renewing basis, the membership will automatically renew in accordance with the renewal terms presented at the time of purchase. If you do not wish your membership to renew, you must cancel the automatic renewal before the applicable renewal date. You can request cancellation of automatic renewal by contacting us at [email protected].

Cancellation of automatic renewal prevents the next renewal. It does not normally terminate access already paid for during the current membership period.

7. Payments

Prices are displayed on our website or otherwise communicated before purchase. Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers including Stripe and PayPal. Customers are responsible for providing accurate payment and billing information.

8. Refunds

Except where required by applicable law or expressly agreed otherwise, payments for Faculty Memberships, renewals and digital access are non-refundable once access to the relevant services or resources has been provided.

For automatically renewing Faculty Memberships, customers are responsible for contacting us before the renewal date if they do not wish their membership to renew. Failure to use a membership or access the resources during the membership period does not, by itself, create an entitlement to a refund.

Nothing in these Terms affects any statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.

9. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the educational resources, text, graphics, designs, downloadable materials, teaching materials and other original content available through theoryofknowledge.net are owned by or licensed to Theory of Knowledge Ltd and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Purchasing a Faculty Membership gives you permission to use our resources in accordance with the licence associated with that membership. Purchasing a membership does not transfer ownership of our intellectual property to you.

10. Permitted Educational Use

Our resources may be used for legitimate educational purposes within the school or organisation covered by the Faculty Membership. Teachers may use and share relevant resources with their own students where this is consistent with the Faculty Membership.

Unless expressly authorised by Theory of Knowledge Ltd, you must not reproduce our resources for commercial resale, republish substantial portions of our resources publicly, upload member-only resources to publicly accessible websites, repositories or file-sharing services, distribute resources to schools, organisations or individuals not covered by the Faculty Membership, sell, sublicense or otherwise commercially exploit our resources, remove copyright or ownership notices from our materials, or systematically copy, scrape or download our website or resource library.

11. Website Availability

We aim to keep theoryofknowledge.net available and functioning reliably. However, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. We may temporarily suspend or restrict access for maintenance, upgrades, security, technical reasons or circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

12. Educational Information

Our resources are intended to support teaching, learning, professional development and critical thinking. While we take considerable care in developing and maintaining our materials, we cannot guarantee that every resource will be appropriate for every educational context, curriculum requirement, examination specification or individual student.

Teachers, schools and educational organisations remain responsible for determining how our resources are used within their own educational settings.

Our website and educational materials may contain links or references to third-party websites, publications, videos, news sources and other external materials.

Theory of Knowledge Ltd is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, security, privacy practices or content of third-party services. The inclusion of a link or reference does not necessarily constitute endorsement of all content or views expressed by the third party.

14. Privacy and Cookies

Theory of Knowledge Ltd processes personal information in accordance with applicable data protection law. Our Privacy & Cookie Policy explains what personal information we collect, how and why we use it, the service providers we use, how long information may be retained, how we use cookies and similar technologies, and your data protection rights.

The Privacy & Cookie Policy should be read alongside these Terms & Conditions.

15. Security and Prohibited Use

You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to our website or another user’s account, interfere with the operation or security of the website, introduce viruses, malware or other harmful technology, circumvent membership or access restrictions, use automated systems to systematically extract protected content without our permission, or use theoryofknowledge.net for unlawful purposes.

We reserve the right to take reasonable measures to protect our website, resources, members and intellectual property.

16. Suspension or Termination

We may suspend or terminate access where there is serious or repeated misuse of an account, material breach of these Terms, unlawful activity or infringement of our intellectual property rights.

Where reasonably possible and appropriate, we will attempt to resolve account issues before permanently terminating access.

17. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful. To the extent permitted by law, Theory of Knowledge Ltd will not be responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from the use of, or inability to use, our website or educational resources.

We do not guarantee that use of our educational resources will result in any particular academic, examination or professional outcome.

18. Changes to Our Services and These Terms

We may update our website, resources, Faculty Memberships and these Terms from time to time. When these Terms are updated, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will apply prospectively and, where appropriate, we will take reasonable steps to inform affected users.

19. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory rights or protections that apply to customers in other jurisdictions.

The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, except where applicable law gives a customer the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.
